今回は9月にオープンした心理カウンセラーさんをご紹介いたします。

Barry Hortonさんは、沖縄米軍基地と民間分野の両方で培ってきたカウンセリング経験をお持ちでいらっしゃいます。これから先も日本沖縄にて、専門的なスキルと個人的な価値観に沿った形で、地域社会のメンタルヘルスと幸福に貢献したいという願いから、くれたけ心理相談室での活動を志望されました。

Barry Horton has counseling experience both at the U.S. military base in Okinawa and in the private sector. He wanted to continue working at Kuretake Psychological Counseling Center in Okinawa, Japan, and contribute to the mental health and well-being of the local community in a way that is consistent with his professional skills and personal values.

なぜくれたけ心理相談室を選んでくださったのでしょうか

私が呉竹心理カウンセリングで働きたいと強く願うのは、私の専門的な目標と呉竹のメンタルヘルスへのアプローチが一致しているからです。呉竹が掲げる「根本的な」癒しと自然で持続的な解決策を重視する理念は、クライエント様の真の、そして持続可能な変化を促すという私の支援方法と深く共鳴しています。思いやりをもって早期に介入することに重点を置いている点も、後のより複雑な問題を防ぐために、課題の根本原因に対処するという私の信念と合致しています。

対面セッション、オンライン相談、さらにはカフェやクライエント様のご自宅といったより非公式な場所でのカウンセリングなど、呉竹の柔軟なカウンセリングオプションは特に魅力的です。このような多様性によって、クライエント様が最も快適に感じられる場所で支援を提供できるクライエント様中心のアプローチが可能になり、これは信頼とオープンな関係を築く上で非常に重要だと考えています。これは、異文化間の移行期にある方、独自の人間関係のダイナミクスを抱えるカップル、そして支援的で柔軟な環境を求める家族にとって特に重要です。軍人および一般市民の両方への支援経験を通して、私はこうした多様な環境の価値と、アクセスしやすく支援的なメンタルヘルスケアの重要性を深く理解しています。

さらに、日本語と英語の両方でサービスを提供している呉竹の取り組みは、カウンセリングにおいて不可欠であると私が強く信じる包括性を体現しています。多様な背景を持つ人々を支援する上で、文化的および言語的な感受性が重要であることを認識しているため、私は現在日本語を積極的に学習しています。日本国内および国際社会に広く貢献するという呉竹のミッションに貢献し、クライエント様に最高のサポートを提供するために、日本の文化と価値観への理解を深めていきたいと考えています。

呉竹に加わることは、クライエント様の臨床的ニーズと個人的ニーズの両方を尊重する枠組みの中で自分のスキルを活かすだけでなく、文化を超えて持続的で包括的なメンタルヘルスソリューションを提供するという呉竹のビジョンを支援する機会でもあります。

I am passionate about working at Kuretake Counseling because my professional goals align with their approach to mental health. Kuretake's philosophy of "root-level" healing and natural, lasting solutions resonates deeply with my approach to helping clients achieve real, sustainable change. Their emphasis on compassionate early intervention also aligns with my belief in addressing the root cause of challenges to prevent more complex issues later on.

Kuretake's flexible counseling options, including in-person sessions, online consultations, and even more informal settings like a café or your own home, are particularly appealing. This diversity allows for a client-centered approach that allows us to provide support where clients feel most comfortable, which I believe is crucial for building trust and open relationships. This is especially important for those transitioning between cultures, couples with unique relationship dynamics, and families seeking a supportive, flexible environment. Having worked with both military and civilian personnel, I deeply understand the value of these diverse settings and the importance of accessible, supportive mental health care.

Furthermore, Kuretake's commitment to providing services in both Japanese and English embodies the inclusivity I strongly believe is essential in counseling. Recognizing the importance of cultural and linguistic sensitivity in supporting people from diverse backgrounds, I am currently actively learning Japanese. I hope to deepen my understanding of Japanese culture and values in order to contribute to Kuretake's mission of broadly serving Japan and the international community and provide the best possible support to our clients.

Joining Kuretake not only allows me to utilize my skills within a framework that respects both the clinical and personal needs of our clients, but also provides an opportunity to support Kuretake's vision of providing sustainable, comprehensive mental health solutions across cultures.
